Full Circle Recovery is proud to announce the launch of a new program – REACH (Rapid Engagement And Community Health) – Iowa’s first formally established post-overdose response team, in partnership with the Des Moines Fire Department. REACH provides support during the critical hours and days following a non-fatal overdose, a time when survivors are at the highest risk for repeat overdose and most receptive to help.
Through this partnership, REACH pairs peer recovery coaches with paramedics to address both immediate medical needs and longer-term recovery support, including connections to community resources. Participation is voluntary and does not require a commitment to engage in a treatment program. REACH is designed to reduce barriers, build trust, and support the whole person, recognizing that every recovery journey is unique. Make a Referral.
Full Circle Recovery provides compassionate, peer-driven support helping individuals navigate their chosen path of recovery and overcome barriers that may arise. Full Circle's Recovery Community Centers create a welcoming space for people in recovery and their families to access education, resources, and connection. Through REACH, Full Circle is extending support deeper into the community, continuing our commitment to meeting people where they are.
“As someone with lived experience in recovery, I know that recovery looks different for everyone, and you don’t have to be ready to deserve support. We meet people where they are, walking alongside each person on their own terms and building trust every step of the way.” - Melissa Roe, REACH Recovery Coach
The REACH program is funded by Polk County’s Opioid Settlement Funds.
One-on-one peer recovery coaching
Distribution of naloxone to help prevent future overdoses
Paramedic support, including starting MOUD (medications for opioid use disorder) when appropriate
Assistance with transportation to appointments, treatment, detox, or MOUD follow-up
Provide access to telehealth and follow-up care
Connection to recovery-related resources for housing, food, insurance, and other basic needs
Ongoing support, no matter where you are on your journey
The goal of REACH is to connect with individuals who are struggling with substance use disorder and have recently experienced or are at high-risk for experiencing an overdose.
Through the program, recoverees and their friends and families are given the opportunity to meet with a peer recovery coach and/or a paramedic, receive and be trained on how to use naloxone, and discuss harm reduction, treatment options, and peer recovery support services that are available to them.
People can reach out directly for support, and referrals are also welcomed from families, friends, first responders, and community partners.
Anyone struggling with substance use can access REACH services without judgment.
